Setting up a roadworks zone
Drivers need warning well before they reach the work area. A typical layout has:
- Advance warning – a roadworks-ahead sign placed far enough before the site for the road speed.
- Speed and lane signs – a reduced speed limit and road-narrows or lane-closed signs.
- Taper – cones or delineators that guide traffic smoothly out of the closed lane.
- Work area – barricades between the traffic and your workers, with keep-left or keep-right signs.
- End of works – a sign that tells drivers the restriction has ended.
